Jolien Van Goethem (1996°) is a mixed-media artist living in Ghent, Belgium. Her work has an autobiographical nature and creates a safe space for exploring pain, grief, and healing. It is a continuous search for meaning, connection, and a new body to carry her. This body manifests in forms that allow her to translate experiences and emotions, strongly influenced by a 'cripped' perspective that centers on the fragility and strength of the body.
Characterized by layering, rawness, photographic elements, the presence or absence of language, and a poetic nature, her practice is constantly evolving. Materials and techniques serve as a direct extension of this search, emphasizing the interaction between body and creation. Moving with an inner journey, the work seeks connection—between self and others, between body and medium. This ongoing dialogue explores the boundaries of expression and communication, uncovering new ways to connect.
